DIXUS vs DIOXUS

April 2025.

Three days I spent coming up with a name. Short, memorable, .dev domain available. DIXUS. Sounds techy. Googled it - just some insects. Great, not taken.

Two months working under this name. Documentation, logo, preparing for publication. Everything says DIXUS.

Then I'm sitting with GPT, discussing something unrelated. It responds:

"Oh, interesting project DIOXUS, been following it for a while..."

What DIOXUS?

Googled it. DIOXUS - Rust framework for UI. 15k stars on GitHub. Active development. Conferences. One letter difference from my name.

I sat there for a while. Two months of work. Logo. Docs. All the branding.

Googled "DIXUS" - nothing. But I never googled similar spellings. AI never warned me when we discussed the name dozens of times.

Three hours I just sat there. Then started searching again.

Latin words. TYPUS - "type", "typing". Domain available. Checked GitHub - nothing. npm - nothing. Seems unique.

Renamed everything in a day. 2765 files. Regex replace, careful testing. But now it's definitely mine.

Lesson learned the hard way: before going public with a name, check exact spelling, similar spellings, all major domains, GitHub, npm, every registry you can think of.
