Database credits are the most overlooked category in the free startup credits universe. Most developers reach for the obvious cloud and AI programs, then pay full price for Postgres, vector databases, and data warehouses, when they could be running on $500,000 of free credits across 10 programs. Neon, Databricks, Aiven, Snowflake, Redis, Pinecone, and others all run programs that hand out real credits with no equity required. Here is the complete 2026 map: 10 programs covering relational, document, key-value, vector, graph, and warehouse databases.
This is the fourth article in the free credits series. Previously: $500K in cloud credits, $400K in AI API credits, and $250K in GPU compute.

How to choose your database stack
For most early-stage AI/data startups, the cleanest stack is:
- Primary OLTP: Neon (Postgres, branching, serverless) or Supabase (open-source Firebase). Both have generous free tiers; Neon credits are larger if you qualify
- Vector / RAG: Pinecone (mature) or pgvector via Supabase/Neon (no separate billing)
- Cache / real-time: Redis Cloud
- Analytics: ClickHouse (via Aiven) or Snowflake if you have data warehouse workloads
- Streaming: Confluent (Kafka) for event-driven architectures
Pick what you actually use; do not chase credits for tools you have no real need for.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get free Postgres for my startup? Yes — multiple ways. Neon Startup Program gives up to $100K in Neon credits to early-stage VC-backed companies. Supabase offers $300-$2,500 through partner accelerators. Aiven includes managed Postgres in its $12K-$100K credit tier. For non-VC bootstrappers, Supabase free tier (500MB DB, 50K MAU) and Neon's free plan are both genuinely free in perpetuity.
What's the best free vector database for AI startups? Pinecone Startup Program is the most generous for vector databases — free Standard Tier access plus Pro Support and usage credits, with eligibility under 100 employees and Series A or earlier. Neo4j is the leader for graph-based vector and RAG (up to $16K Aura credits). For the database layer alone, MongoDB Atlas now includes Voyage AI tokens through its AI Innovators track.
How much can I save with free database credits? Top combined database credit stack for an AI/data startup is $500K+: $100K Neon + $50K Databricks + $25K Redis + $16K Neo4j + $100K Aiven + $50K MongoDB AI Innovators + Pinecone Standard tier + Snowflake free credit on contract + Confluent + Supabase. Most stacks land at $200K-$300K because programs have overlapping eligibility — pick the providers your stack actually uses.
Do database startup programs require VC funding? Most have VC or accelerator backing as a requirement for the higher credit tiers. Aiven's $12K tier is the most accessible without partner affiliation. MongoDB and Confluent give credits via AWS Activate (which has bootstrap-friendly entry). Supabase, Neon, and Snowflake free tiers are usable without any program at all.
Can I stack database credits with cloud and AI credits? Yes — they are independent programs with separate sponsors. Most data-heavy startups stack: AWS/GCP cloud credits + AI API credits (OpenAI/Anthropic) + database credits (Neon/Pinecone) + GPU compute credits (Modal/Nebius). Each program has its own eligibility check; nothing in any program prohibits parallel applications. See Free Startup Credits 2026: Complete Guide for the full stack.
